How to Manage Menopause Symptoms: A Holistic Approach

Menopause is a natural stage in every woman’s life. Still, it often comes with overwhelming challenges. Have you been experiencing sudden hot flashes, mood swings, or difficulty sleeping? If so, you’re not alone. Millions of women go through menopause, and while it is a normal transition, it doesn’t have to disrupt your life.

The hormonal changes during menopause lead to uncomfortable symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, and even long-term health risks like osteoporosis. However, taking a holistic approach can help manage these symptoms effectively. At Medi-Gyn Dubai, we offer advanced menopause management solutions that are designed to help you regain balance and well-being.

Understanding Menopause and Its Symptoms

Menopause usually occurs in women between 45 – 55 years of age. It marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. Biologically, the estrogen and progesterone levels decline, leading to various physical and emotional symptoms.

Common Symptoms of Menopause

Physical Symptoms:

    • Hot flashes and night sweats
    • Fatigue and low energy levels
    • Joint pain and stiffness
    • Weight gain and metabolism changes

Emotional and Cognitive Symptoms:

  • Mood swings in women
  • Increased/unwanted irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Memory lapses
  • Brain fog

Long-term Health Risks:

  • Osteoporosis, resulting in brittle bones
  • Increased risk of heart disease
  • Loss of skin elasticity and premature aging

Although these symptoms differ from woman to woman, a holistic and individualized approach can control them well.

Holistic Ways to Manage Menopause Symptoms

Instead of depending on drugs, a holistic approach emphasizes lifestyle changes that result in overall health. Here’s how you can take charge of your menopause journey:

  1. Nutrition for Hormonal Balance
  • Consume a diet rich in phytoestrogens (soy, flaxseeds, and legumes) to balance hormones naturally.
  • Consume calcium-rich foods (dairy, almonds, and leafy greens) to form strong bones.
  • Drink plenty of water and limit excessive caffeine and alcohol to avoid hot flashes and dehydration.
  1. Exercise for Strength and Vitality
  • Do strength training to preserve muscle mass and bone density.
  • Do yoga and pilates to enhance flexibility and reduce stress.
  • Add cardiovascular exercises such as walking or swimming to maintain heart health.
  1. Mindfulness & Stress Reduction
  • Practice meditation and deep breathing to reduce anxiety and mood swings.
  • Take up hobbies and relaxation techniques to enhance overall well-being.
  • Practice self-care—massages, aromatherapy, or nature walks can work.
  1. Better Sleep Strategies
  • Have a regular sleep schedule to regulate your body clock.
  • Use herbal remedies such as chamomile tea or lavender essential oil to relax.
  • Limit screen time before bed and have a cool, dark sleeping area.
  1. Hormonal Balance Through Natural Solutions
  • Adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha and maca root may help regulate stress hormones.
  • A balanced lifestyle, with good nutrition and exercise, can naturally support hormone levels.

The Role of Social Support in Menopause

Menopause does not have to be a lonely experience. A strong support system can make a lot of difference. Talking with friends, relatives, or support groups enhances bonding and sharing. Thus stress and anxiety levels go down. Research indicates that emotional support can lower symptoms such as mood swings and depression. Belonging to a community, participating in online forums, or professional counseling can also be of good help.

The spouse and family members need to support women facing menopause challenges. When family members are aware of menopause and its symptoms, naturally it leads to understanding and compassion. Talking freely about the difficulties transforms the home environment to a supporting space.

Medi-Gyn Dubai promotes a holistic experience encompassing emotional well-being. With group support and counseling sessions, they empower women to face menopause with confidence. Remember, you are not alone—asking for help and staying connected can turn this phase into one of growth and discovery.

Mr. Homajun Nobacht

Pharmacist and BHRT Specialist

Born in Tehran in 1962, Homajun Nobacht competed his Pharmacy studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt in 1995.

Homajun has dedicated his life to the development of and working with bioidentical hormones with a total experience being over 25 years. He leads a Team of Pharmasists who offer personalised formulations for patients in the context of bioidentical hormone therapy and anti-ageing.

The base product for bioidentical hormones produced by the pharmacy is obtained  from a yam root, the ingredients of which are the so-called diosgenins and these have a structure that is similar to our sex hormones. The diosgenins are then semi-enzymatically converted to progesterone, pregnenolone, DHEA, testosterone and estradiol using Marker methods.

We use these hormones in micronized form, which is very important for the bioidentical hormones to work. The micronization and dispersion in olive oil ensures that the hormones bypass the first pass effect without damaging the liver in the long-term.
