Functional Medicine: A Holistic Approach to Weight Loss

Trying to shed those extra pounds with limited success? You’re not alone!

There are several means of weight loss– traditional diets, fitness routines, and even weight loss pills that promise quick fixes. However, most of these can frustrate you when the results don’t last.

If this sounds familiar, this blog is for you! Modern lifestyles come with chronic stress and other environmental factors that affect health. Considering these factors in your weight loss plan is vital for evident results. This is where Functional Medicine at Medi-Gyn comes into play.

But what exactly does that mean? Let’s find out in this blog!

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a holistic approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of health conditions rather than simply masking symptoms. Instead of applying a one-size-fits-all method to weight loss used in traditional methods, our experts at Medi-Gyn work with you to understand the underlying imbalances in your body that may be contributing to your weight gain. These imbalances could be related to hormones, gut health, inflammation, stress, and genetic factors.

Rather than offering temporary fixes, functional medicine aims to create long-term, sustainable wellness by restoring balance within your body.

Benefits of Functional Medicine

Before we learn more about how functional medicine helps in achieving weight loss and maintaining optimum weight, here are a few of its benefits for the body:

  • It helps boost immunity by supporting gut health
  • Reduces inflammation and inflammation-related leaky gut
  • Aids in digestion
  • Supports liver health
  • Supports healthy brain and cogntive function

How Does Functional Medicine Address Weight Loss?

Functional medicine is an all-rounded approach to weight loss. Here’s how it works!

  • Personalised approach

Our experts at Medi-Gyn take a personalised approach to creating a weight loss plan tailored to your requirements.

Your practitioner will begin by analysing your medical history, lifestyle, any existing health conditions and medications. They will then recommend a holistic plan that may include:

  1. Curated nutrition and diet charts
  2. Effective stress management techniques
  3. Targeted supplements
  • Hormonal Balance

Hormones are integral to your body’s physiology and significantly impact your body weight. Insulin, thyroid, and cortisol are hormones that influence how your body stores fat and burns energy.

When stress levels are high and getting good sleep is increasingly challenging, cortisol levels run high. High cortisol can sabotage any efforts to lose weight. Functional Medicine tests can assist in determining if your hormones are out of balance and help the practitioner recommend appropriate interventions to restore hormonal balance and aid in weight loss.

  • Gut Health

Did you know the gut is also called your ‘second brain’? This is because it plays a significant role in immunity and overall health. So, any imbalance in gut bacteria or digestive issues can disrupt the gut microbiome and make it difficult to lose weight. They can also contribute to chronic inflammation and the development of long-term conditions.

A functional medicine approach includes assessing your gut health and making dietary and lifestyle changes to promote a healthy microbiome.

  • Sustainable lifestyle changes

Quick fixes and fad diets promise to offer quick results, but they are for short-term weight loss and often leave people feeling deprived or unsatisfied. On the other hand, Functional Medicine takes a more comprehensive approach, helping them implement realistic, long-term lifestyle changes.

With our carefully curated strategies, Functional Medicine can help improve your sleep quality, lower stress levels, and assist you in including exercise routines that meet your body’s unique needs.

  • Nutritional support

In today’s fast-paced life, many people rely on convenience foods, which are often high in sugar, sodium, and preservatives. Functional Medicine offers nutritional guidance that supports both weight loss and overall health.

Our experts will advise you on foods that nourish your body and promote fat loss, as well as strategies for avoiding triggers that can lead to unhealthy cravings.

Why Choose Functional Medicine for Weight Loss?

With Functional Medicine, you achieve weight loss and address your entire system to attain sustainable results.

Mr. Homajun Nobacht

Pharmacist and BHRT Specialist

Born in Tehran in 1962, Homajun Nobacht competed his Pharmacy studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt in 1995.

Homajun has dedicated his life to the development of and working with bioidentical hormones with a total experience being over 25 years. He leads a Team of Pharmasists who offer personalised formulations for patients in the context of bioidentical hormone therapy and anti-ageing.

The base product for bioidentical hormones produced by the pharmacy is obtained  from a yam root, the ingredients of which are the so-called diosgenins and these have a structure that is similar to our sex hormones. The diosgenins are then semi-enzymatically converted to progesterone, pregnenolone, DHEA, testosterone and estradiol using Marker methods.

We use these hormones in micronized form, which is very important for the bioidentical hormones to work. The micronization and dispersion in olive oil ensures that the hormones bypass the first pass effect without damaging the liver in the long-term.
